London and the Family

A long haul flight from Brisbane to London via Dubai certainly gives one a perspective on how travel has changed over the years.  My first trip here in 1973/74 was a major 'event' with all the family turning up at the international airport (an old wartime hangar) to wave goodbye.  Everyone wore their best clothes, there was one aisle only on the plane and we touched down in a myriad of places along the way. Entertainment was provided on a 'drop-down' screen in the front of the cabin.

This time the plane was like a small village with a range of people - including many young families with some well-travelled children.  The dress style was 'choose your own adventure', everyone had their own TV and there were countless programs to choose from.  The plane was full - over 500 people - and noisy!  We had one stop, Dubai and I was surprised that I didn't have too much jet lag on arrival in London in the early afternoon.

It was great to see the family again and we filled the next couple of days playing, reading and visiting Garsons Farm to pick berries and beautiful sweet corn.

With all this fresh produce there was some baking in order ......

Fortunately on Wednesday we managed a sunny afternoon and a trip to the park.

Feeding the ducks with our new nanny, Terena.

U. Nigel and A. Ayla arrived on Wednesday afternoon and Great Grandma and Undad arrived on Thursday.  Reyna had her introductory day at Bishop Gilpin school and we had a busy afternoon of bubbles in the garden followed by a great Bar-B-Que cooked by Daddy and U. Nigel.
